The Powell Academy of Music offers early childhood music lessons in Powell, Ohio for students age 3-6.
Animal Adventures in Music is a fun and engaging early childhood music program designed specifically for children ages 3-6. Through games, movement, singing, rhythm activities, instrument exploration, and imaginative adventures, students build a strong foundation in music while developing creativity, confidence, listening skills, and coordination.
Lessons in an individual, one-to-one format (one teacher, one student) give students the ability to move at their own pace and explore their own interests. 10 LEVELS, 10 BOOKS, 10 INSTRUMENTS

Throughout this exciting program, your child will travel through 10 themed books with their teacher, exploring a different instrument in each. Every book is filled to the brim with learning activities, games, stickers and more and easily divides the program into 10 extremely structured levels, each of which builds off the previous. As your child completes each level, they will receive a special themed medal featuring the color and animal character from that level.

By the time your child graduates from this impressive program (typically about 60 weeks), they will be able to identify and understand basic music symbols, read and clap rhythms from quarter note to sixteenth note, and read three octaves of notes on the grand staff, in addition to learning about instruments such as the piano, guitar, drums, violin, cello, clarinet, saxophone, and more!

Once your child has discovered their passion and has mastered all 10 levels of achievement, they’ll have the opportunity to graduate effortlessly into our vocal or instrumental private lesson program, and even continue their level-based achievement journey through our Level Up Achievement Program.

TABLE TIME, RUG TIME, STAGE TIME

Table Time - The student and teacher work together to learn and practice new concepts using their Animal Adventures workbook as well as other resources such as a music staff whiteboard and flashcards.
Rug Time - The student and teacher meet on the Animal Adventures music staff rug for practice in note reading, rhythm, and musical expression. This high energy segment of the class solidifies concepts for young students utilizing fun backyard-style games and silly role-reversal variations.
Stage Time - This final segment of the class is spent in hands-on exploration, listening, and learning about one of ten instruments that will be covered.

Instruments

During each level of the program, students will explore and learn about a new instrument, having the opportunity to listen to it, see it, touch it, and learn how it works! The instruments covered in our music classes for kids and toddlers are:
Level 1 - Voice
Level 2 - Guitar
Level 3 - Violin
Level 4 - Flute
Level 5 - Drums
Level 6- Saxophone
Level 7 - Cello
Level 8 - Trumpet
Level 9 - Clarinet
Level 10 - Piano/Keyboard

PRIVATE LESSON PREPARATION

By the time students graduate from this program, they will be ready to begin private lessons in the instrument of their choice (as long as it is appropriate for their age). No matter what instruments they study going forward, they will have a tremendous head start and extremely strong foundation for the rest of their life! Students' minds are very easily molded at this age, and our goal is to instill critical music foundations, knowledge, and a lifelong appreciation of music.

SCHEDULE AND TUITION

Lessons are available in 30 minute sessions and occur once each week. Tuition is $40 per 30-minute session. Tuition includes one free book and a beautiful, spinning medal upon passing each level. After your first book, each new level’s book will cost $19.99 each. Payment is due on the first day of each month, along with a $35 one-time registration fee for new families (which does not need to be paid again once you transfer your child into regular instrument private lessons).

Length of the program depends on the student, but it takes most students approximately 60 weeks to complete the entire program and graduate to private instrument lessons. Animal Adventures in Music lessons are appropriate for students ages 3-6.

"My daughter is in the Animal Adventures program for kids 3-6. Not only has this program been so fun for her, i’m impressed with how much music reading and theory she’s learning to better prepare her for choosing an instrument to learn. Julia is such a wonderful teacher, and is so kind and patient with young kids."

— Casey S.
Parent

"We have been doing Animal Adventures since the beginning of 2025 and love the experience of getting to learn about music and explore instruments. My son does struggle with focus at times, and his teacher, Mrs. Emily is patient and understanding when he is distracted. We have loved working with Mrs. Emily and are looking forward to all the ways my son can grow his musical knowledge with her help."
