ABOUT OUR CLARINET LESSONS
The Powell Academy of Music provides the best clarinet lessons in Powell, Ohio through fun and engaging private instruction. Lessons are tailored to meet the needs of each individual student. Typically, clarinet lessons start from the age of 7 onwards. Earlier than age 7, most students do not have the lung capacity and strength to handle the instrument.
Clarinet students can learn a variety of styles, from classical to jazz. Many of our students perform in solo & ensemble, their school marching and concert bands, as well as in local youth orchestras.

What do you learn in your clarinet lessons?
In clarinet lessons, students will learn the fundamentals: proper embouchure, theory, technique, sight reading, and improvisation, in addition to selecting music of their choice. We understand that every student is unique and has different goals. Whether you want to get a jump start on your concert band music or perfect that solo & ensemble piece, our teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your musical interests.
My child already takes band at school, can he/she benefit from private lessons?
Yes! Private clarinet lessons are one-on-one and highly focused on your child’s needs. Students receive very little individual instruction in their school bands and orchestras because there is typically only one band director and 40+ students at a time. In private lessons, your child will get a full 30 minutes each week to work with one of our instructors on what they want to learn.
Where can I get an instrument?
While we don’t rent or sell instruments, we are a drop off location for our retail partners, Rettig Music. You can rent clarinets online through their website and they will drop them off at one of our schools for you to pick up.
Are your instructors qualified?
Our instructors are highly qualified, holding either a degree in music or very extensive performance and playing ability. For our degreed teachers, they have received their education from prestigious institutions such as the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, The Berklee College of Music, Oberlin College and Conservatory, The Ohio State University, Capital University, and many others. For our instructors with extensive or exceptional performing ability, they are thoroughly vetted by our school owner, Chad Ebert.
In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and dedicated to teaching you the style of music that you want to learn in your music lessons.
