ABOUT OUR DRUM LESSONS

We offer a wide variety of drum and percussion lessons. Most of our students learn on a drum kit. We have both male and female students and typically, students do not start drum lessons before the age of 6, as they need to be able to reach both the pedal and the cymbals. We do have some younger students but suggest they come in for a trial drum lesson to see if they are big enough to get started. Drum lessons are taught on a drum kit in our studios, but students are able to get started practicing at home on practice pads before purchasing or renting a drum kit.

Our drum lessons stress proper technique, so students become good drummers quickly. Our drum instructors are highly qualified and are active performers. Our private drum lessons are one-on-one instruction and lesson lengths are 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 1 hour. Private lessons can start anytime and we only require a 30 days notice to stop classes. To register for private lessons, you can call us at 614-572-3640, stop by during our office hours, or email info@powellacademyofmusic.com.

Do I have to own a drum set to take lessons?

Drum lessons are taught on a drum kit in our studios, but students are able to get started practicing at home on practice pads before purchasing or renting a drum kit. (Practice pads and sticks typically cost less than $40.00)

What is the best age to start lessons?

Adults can start anytime. We recommend that children be at least six years old before starting lessons.

What will I learn in my lessons?

Our drum instructors stress proper technique and fundamentals so that students become good drummers quickly. In addition to fundamentals, students are encouraged to bring their favorite beats or music of their own choice. Our teachers make it a priority to get to know each student on a personal level and will teach you the music you want to learn. At the first lesson, your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child.

Are your instructors qualified?

Our instructors are highly qualified, holding either a degree in music or very extensive performance and playing ability. For our degreed teachers, they have received their education from prestigious institutions such as the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, The Berklee College of Music, Oberlin College and Conservatory, The Ohio State University, Capital University, and many others. For our instructors with extensive or exceptional performing ability, they are thoroughly vetted by our school owner, Chad Ebert.

In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and dedicated to teaching you the style of music that you want to learn in your music lessons.
